About the Academics@UCSD™ Survey

The Academics@UCSD™ survey tool was developed by Tritonlytics™ in partnership with the Center for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Institutional Research to better understand the experiences of Academic employees at UC San Diego, including faculty, researchers, and librarians. The intent is to utilize this information to guide us in creating the most personally and professionally fulfilling community possible.

The survey asks questions about satisfaction with the academic work environment, including access to support, resources, the academic reward structure, and department culture, as well as questions about interpersonal behaviors in the workplace.  The survey questions were reviewed and vetted by faculty focus groups comprised of faculty across disciplines.

The survey has been statistically validated to measure key dimensions concerning Satisfaction with the University, Department/Unit Values and Culture, Department/Unit Effectiveness, Academic Welfare, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Institutional results are an important means of charting our progress and ensuring that our academic appointees feel valued and supported at UC San Diego. We value your thoughts and opinions and are invested in the continuous improvement of our campus work environment. Therefore, your participation in this survey is crucial.

The following Vice Chancellor areas are participating in this survey: Academic Affairs, Marine Sciences, and Research Affairs.

All Academic Personnel from General Campus and SIO with the exception of the following titles: Extension, Preuss School, Postdoctoral Scholars, Visiting and Non-Salaried Titles, Graduate Student Instructors, and Emeriti/Recall.

If you have a joint or split appointment with another department on campus, you should only complete the survey based your primary or “home” department.  Your home department has been pre-determined based on a set of criteria, e.g. hiring department, percent appointment, etc., to generate a link that correlates your response to the correct department without identifying you as the respondent.  If your home department is in Health Sciences, which is not participating in this survey, you will be invited to complete the survey on behalf the other department on General Campus or SIO with which you are affiliated.

Aggregate campus survey results will be published on the Center for Faculty Diversity and Inclusion (a unit of VC-EDI)’s website.
